A car wash outlet in Thailand has captured media attention for a service that is odd but true. Not only does it wash cars, it offers to wash elephants as well.
Thai digital news portal The Nation chanced upon the amusing discovery on a Facebook post by one Chakkrit Chamnongplee.
Chakkrit had posted about the unusual service at the car wash outlet in the eastern Thai province of Chonburi.
After the car wash worker had soaped it up and gave it a good wash-down, the elephant appeared to enjoy the treatment, lifting its trunk as if to express its appreciation in a follow-up video clip.
Some online comments suggested tongue-in-cheek the elephant should have also been given a glossy coating to round off the service.
The Nation report did not say how much the person who brought in the elephant paid for the wash. It’s usual to charge more for bigger vehicles, and by extension big animals.
Elephants, especially the Asian elephant species, have deep cultural, religious, and historical ties to Thailand. They are a national symbol of strength, wisdom, and good fortune. And these creatures can live to a ripe old age of 80 years.
