Geely Holding Group has announced a global partnership with Google to bring Geely Google built-in services to eligible vehicles across its overseas brands, with the first vehicle application planned for the second half of 2027.
Announced on Oct 16, the agreement will integrate Google Automotive Services into vehicle digital cockpits, providing access to Google Gemini, Google Maps, Google Play and other applications. The system combines a multimodal voice assistant, navigation, cross-device connectivity and in-car apps.
Unlike Android Auto, which projects smartphone apps onto a car’s display, Google built-in runs on the vehicle’s own infotainment system.
The first application is planned for markets outside China and the United States, subject to product, regulatory and market-readiness requirements.
Geely said the next roll out of Google services will cover passenger vehicles from Geely, Lynk & Co, Proton, Riddara and smart, among others. Proton’s inclusion is particularly relevant to Malaysia, though the carmaker has yet to identify which models will receive the technology.
The company has not said which brand will get the first vehicle, so it is not confirmed that Proton or smart models will arrive in the second half of 2027.
The agreement extends Geely Holding Group’s ties with Google. The Polestar 2, for example, has offered Google built-in services since 2020.
Geely Holding Group chief technology officer Dr Shen Yuan said the partnership would bring digital services directly into vehicles to create a more seamless, intuitive and enjoyable driving experience.
Google’s Android for Cars product director Haris Ramic said the collaboration would give drivers their favourite apps, intuitive navigation and a personal AI assistant from the dashboard.
Geely said further details on supported models, markets, features and timing will be announced as the rollout progresses.
