Audi’s China-only AUDI brand has unveiled the E7X, a large electric SUV developed with SAIC and targeted at China’s fast-moving premium EV market.
Introduced at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, the E7X is the second production model from the new AUDI brand, after the E5 Sportback.
It is not a conventional four-ring Audi model. Instead, it comes under the China-specific AUDI identity created through Audi’s collaboration with SAIC, with development centred heavily around Chinese buyer habits, software use and in-car digital services.
The E7X is a big car, measuring 5,049mm long, 1,997mm wide and 1,710mm tall, with a 3,060mm wheelbase.
Production will take place at the AUDI intelligent production base in Anting, Shanghai, with market introduction due in the first half of 2026. SAIC separately said pre-sales will start on May 8.
Underneath, the SUV uses the Advanced Digitised Platform, a jointly developed architecture with 900-volt electrical hardware and zonal electronics.
Two powertrain versions are listed: a 300kW rear-wheel-drive model and a 500kW quattro all-wheel-drive version. The more powerful version produces 800Nm and is claimed to complete the 0-100kph run in 3.9 seconds.
Battery choices comprise 100kWh and 109kWh gross-capacity packs. Audi said the larger battery gives the E7X more than 750km of CLTC range, while 4C fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in 13 minutes. As usual with CLTC figures, real-world range is likely to be lower, especially at higher speeds or in cold weather.
The cabin caters to both families and chauffeur-driven buyers. Five-seat and four-seat layouts are planned, with zero-gravity seating available. In the four-seat version, the rear seats can recline up to 120 degrees, with pneumatic adjustment, massage and an electric footrest.
Rear passengers also get a 21.4-inch roof-mounted entertainment screen, while the dashboard uses a 27-inch 4K panoramic display.
Audi has also packed the E7X with China-specific software. The AUDI Assistant 2.0 is co-developed with ByteDance, while the lidar-based AUDI 360 Driving Assist is co-developed with Momenta for Chinese road conditions.
SAIC described the system as supporting urban and expressway assistance, with broader “parking-space-to-parking-space” capability.
The E7X is part of a wider push to rebuild Audi’s position in China. Audi and SAIC are already planning a third model under the new China brand in 2027, after the E5 Sportback and E7X.
