Porsche is starting to sound like Mercedes-Benz.
Like the 3-pointed star automaker, Porsche has come to realise that it is going to take many more years to switch most of its lineup to run purely on batteries.
It had previously said its aim was for 80% of sales to be all-electric by 2030. It now has to revise its forecast amid cooling electric vehicle (EV) demand in key global markets.
“The transition to electric cars is taking longer than we thought five years ago,” Porsche said as it struggles to reach EV sales targets this year.
“Our product strategy is set up such that we could deliver over 80% of our vehicles as all electric in 2030 – dependent on customer demand and the development of electromobility.”
So far, the Macan and Taycan are the only battery electric cars in the Porsche portfolio.
While it will continue to work on electric vehicles, Porsche said it will also keep on developing combustion engine and electrified cars as these are products that help pay the bills and fatten the corporate coffers.
