A new colour is as good an excuse for a carmaker to fire off a press release. And so Pro-NET did.

It announced Emerald Green as a new colour for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV range.

The update is minor but it serves as another nudge for a model Proton launched only in early February.

In its announcement, Pro-NET said the PHEV has drawn strong local interest and repeated its claim that Proton e.MAS remains Malaysia’s No.1 EV brand, with one in every two EVs sold in the country this year carrying the badge.

The PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre hybrid-dedicated engine with an 11-in-1 hybrid transmission, producing 160kW and 262Nm.

Proton e.MAS also quotes thermal efficiency of up to 46.5%, system efficiency of 92.5%, fuel use as low as 4.3 litres per 100km, and a 10-year service cost below RM8,000. Drivers can choose between Pure, Hybrid and Power modes depending on driving needs.

Pro-NET chief branding officer Salawati Yusoff said the new colour offers more choice to the public, while keeping the PHEV practical and reasonably attainable.

The PHEV comes in three versions and are now offered with promotional prices. The Prime goes for RM105,800, Premium at RM119,800 and Premium Plus at RM125,800.
