It’s a pretty good haul for GWM Malaysia in the run-up to the Year of the Horse.
Its WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV galloped to over 800 bookings within a week following its launch.
GWM Malaysia said the tally showed early proof of demand for the country’s first locally assembled luxury PHEV.
The bookings update came after the model’s official launch on Jan 29 in Kuala Lumpur.
GWM Malaysia positions the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV as part of a broader push to make Malaysia a regional production and export base for higher-value electrified vehicles within Asean.
GWM Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi said the booking count signals customer understanding of what the WEY G9 stood for, while chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah said the result also reflected the capability of Malaysia’s local assembly base.
The WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV uses a Hi4 intelligent hybrid system, with up to 170km of pure electric driving and a claimed total range of more than 1,000km. It is priced at RM269,800.
