The Jetour T2 has secured a 5-Star Asean NCAP rating, closing out the final weeks of the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries’ 2021–2025 assessment protocol.

Tested late in December as Asean NCAP wrapped up its five-year framework, the rugged, off-road-styled SUV posted an overall score of 86.50 points.

Its breakdown was 37.17 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 15.94 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 17.14 points for Safety Assist (SA) and 16.25 points for Motorcyclist Safety (MS).

Asean NCAP said the 2021–2025 protocol is structured around four domains, with AOP carrying a maximum 40 points, while COP, SA and MS each contribute up to 20 points.

In its safety equipment list, Asean NCAP noted the T2 comes standard with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). It also has seatbelt reminders for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers, as well as rear seat occupant detection.

Other standard-fit items include Blind Spot Detection on both sides, Pedestrian Protection, Child Presence Detection and ISOFIX mounts for child seats across all variants, Asean NCAP said.

A wider suite of driver assistance systems is offered as optional equipment, including Autonomous Emergency Braking functions for city and inter-urban driving, as well as AEB for pedestrians and motorcycles.

The optional pack also includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Auto High Beam.

The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) and Asean NCAP said they welcome Jetour, a Chery sub-brand, into the programme.

It said the closing year of the 2021–2025 protocol has seen a strong mix of models and powertrains entering assessment, reflecting a market in transition.

Asean NCAP’s next assessment cycle, covering 2026–2030, is set to begin this month.
