LG Electronics plans to debut an “AI Cabin Platform” at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on Jan 6-9, touting it as an in-vehicle system that runs generative AI directly on the car’s own computing hardware.

The platform is designed for automotive high-performance computing setups and uses Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Cockpit Elite to handle the heavy lifting, according to LG.

LG said it is applying vision-language models, large language models and image-generation models to its in-vehicle infotainment software, aiming for assistance that reacts to what is happening in and around the car, rather than fixed, menu-driven prompts.

A central claim is that the AI processing stays on-device. By keeping computations inside the vehicle instead of sending requests to external servers, LG said the system can respond faster and reduce exposure to cloud-related security risks.

In demonstrations described by LG, the platform uses feeds from internal and external cameras to judge the traffic scene and the driver’s condition, then surfaces prompts when it thinks the driver has missed something. One example: if another vehicle starts to merge and the driver appears not to notice, the system can issue an alert warning that a car is moving in.

LG is also pushing the entertainment side. The company said the user interface can generate visuals that match conditions outside the vehicle, such as a winter-themed background during a snowy night drive, and then suggest music that fits the moment.

The AI Cabin Platform will be shown first at a private LG showcase during CES, where guests can sit in a digital cockpit demo and preview LG’s idea of an “AI-defined vehicle”, which it positions as a step beyond the current “software-defined vehicle” pitch.

LG said the launch was an extension of its work with Qualcomm, after the pair used CES 2025 to talk up an automotive high-performance computing platform that combined infotainment and advanced driver-assistance functions into a single control unit.

“Based on our proven technology and global trust, we will continue expanding partnerships with innovators like Qualcomm Technologies to drive future mobility beyond the SDV to the AIDV,” said LG Vehicle Solution Company president Eun Seok-hyun.

“With the AI Cabin Platform, we are creating mobility that not only understands drivers, but responds proactively to their needs and preferences, making every journey uniquely personal.”
