Lepas has rolled out the L4 EV at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, giving Chery Group’s young lifestyle-focused brand a compact electric crossover aimed at urban buyers and, ambitiously, premium rivals such as the BMW iX1.
The L4 EV made its debut alongside Lepas’ wider global New Energy Vehicle strategy at the China International Exhibition Centre, where the brand also set out how it plans to build a broader electrified line-up using Chery Group’s R&D resources and its LEX intelligent new energy platform.
The company is pitching the L4 as a city-friendly electric SUV rather than a large family hauler.
Lepas said the model has been developed for lightweight urban use, with a focus on agility, practicality and a more polished driving feel. Its design follows the brand’s “Leopard Aesthetics” language, with sculpted body surfaces, slim lighting and a more upright, confident stance.
The L4 EV is being positioned against models such as the BMW iX1, Volvo EX30 and the forthcoming Mercedes GLA, putting it in a tougher space than its newcomer status might suggest.
The L4 EV is expected to measure at around 4.4m long, placing it in the compact SUV class.
Lepas has not released full technical specifications for the L4 EV yet.
However, early information points to a compact electric crossover with intelligent cabin functions, connectivity features and advanced driver assistance systems.
Media reports suggest the L4 EV is targeting up to 450km of WLTP range.
For Chery, Lepas gives it another export-facing brand, this time with a softer lifestyle pitch than Omoda or Jaecoo.
The L4 EV is the smallest and most urban part of that plan, but its target list suggests Lepas wants to be seen as more than just another low-cost Chinese badge.
