Great Wall Motor’s Tank brand teased a new flagship off-road SUV that it said would arrive after the Chinese New Year holiday, signalling another push into China’s fast-growing “luxury off-road” space.
Tank brand CEO Gu Yukun had posted on Weibo that the company would introduce a “cross-era” new product after the holiday, calling it a frontrunner in China’s luxury off-road story.
According to China-based tech and consumer electronics news site ITHome, the vehicle was expected to be a large or mid-to-large SUV, pitched with stronger comfort, richer luxury equipment and improved off-road ability, although the company did not release confirmed specifications.
Meanwhile, CarNewsChina reported that the launch timing was expected around March, but noted that key technical details such as dimensions, powertrain layout, battery size and pricing had not been disclosed.
It described the teaser as part of a broader 2026 rollout across GWM brands, with multiple new models planned, including Tank vehicles and higher-end plug-in hybrid SUVs.
With no hard numbers on the new Tank flagship yet, both reports pointed to GWM’s wider large-SUV direction as a useful reference point.
ITHome highlighted the recently revealed Wey V9X plug-in hybrid flagship as a comparison.
The Chinese outlet cited official and regulatory details showing a six-seat SUV measuring 5,299mm long, 2,025mm wide and 1,825mm tall on a 3,150mm wheelbase, with kerb weights listed at 2,740–2,930kg depending on variant.
It also listed a 2.0-litre engine (1,998ml displacement) and battery options of 53.6kWh or 77.7kWh using an NCM chemistry pack supplied by SVOLT, alongside quoted EV-only ranges of 240km or 363km under China’s regulatory testing.
CarNewsChina said the new Tank flagship had not been confirmed to share the V9X platform or hardware, but suggested the V9X still offered a pointer to how GWM is engineering its next wave of large, premium electrified SUVs.
