Pro-NET, the Proton subsidiary steering the brand’s electric push, reports a new milestone in Malaysia’s fast-growing EV market.

As at Oct 31, the e.MAS 7 has sold 7,413 units in total, comprising 6,954 vehicles delivered locally and 459 exported. The model remains Malaysia’s best-selling EV for 10 consecutive months.

Momentum is building behind the newly launched e.MAS 5, billed as Malaysia’s first affordable EV, with bookings surpassing 10,000 nationwide.

Pro-NET said the interest signals rising acceptance of battery-powered cars among mainstream buyers and supports its goal of widening access to electric mobility without sacrificing quality.

Pro-NET chief executive officer Zhang Qiang said the response reflected consumer trust.

“Every booking received is the mark of trust that Malaysians have in us to deliver the e.MAS 5 at the highest standards.”

Early demand for the e.MAS 5 is strongest in the Central Region, followed by the Southern and Northern regions. Orders from the east coast, Sabah and Sarawak are growing, pointing to broad national appeal for a compact EV positioned as an everyday runabout.

Dealers reported that most e.MAS 5 customers are working professionals choosing it as a primary daily vehicle.

Many are trading in older cars to take advantage of the “Power Trade-In” programme, which adds an RM1,000 rebate.

A notable share of buyers are also taking the e.MAS 5 as a second household car, while first-time car buyers are entering the market for the first time with an EV, drawn by low running costs and simple charging routines.

Affordability, practicality and a rounded driving experience top early customer feedback. Buyers also cited the car’s compact footprint, contemporary styling and integrated smart features that ease commuting and school-run duties.

Bookings for the e.MAS 5 are open with a launch rebate of RM3,000 available until Dec 31.

A limited-time launch package valued at up to RM8,000 includes an AC 7 kW home charger and five years of unlimited in-car Internet data, alongside additional ownership benefits designed to lower entry costs and simplify living with an EV.
