BYD Malaysia is previewing the Shark 6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pick-up truck in Kuala Lumpur.
No launch date is confirmed for the truck, which is being showcased at Desa ParkCity in conjunction with BYD Tech Discovery Day 2025 (Nov 14-16).
The right-hand-drive double cab vehicle, shown in Australian specification, is being used to showcase BYD’s Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) Super Hybrid platform and to test the waters in the one-tonne pick-up segment.
Its regional track record is mixed. In Thailand, the Shark 6 was priced from about 1.699 million baht (RM217,000) with plans for local assembly in 2026, but only 153 orders were taken from an initial 500-unit batch and the programme was cancelled.
In Australia, where it starts from A$57,900 (RM157,000), initial demand reportedly overwhelmed the online booking site.
The Shark 6 uses a ladder-frame chassis and is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with two electric motors, producing 436PS and 650Nm.
BYD said the sprint from 0–100kph is achieved in 5.7 seconds and top speed is 160kph.
A 29.58 kWh Blade battery is said to give up to 100 km of electric driving and about 840km combined range. AC charging is rated at 7 kW and DC fast charging at up to 55kW, plus vehicle-to-load at 6kW.
The cabin features a 10.25-inch digital cluster, 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with smartphone integration, powered seats, dual-zone climate control and a full ADAS package.
