Australia’s Aeson Power has entered the Malaysian market with a new range of sodium-ion automotive batteries, positioning the chemistry as a safer, longer-lasting alternative to traditional lead-acid units.

Unveiled today a in Kuala Lumpur, the line-up comprises NaPulse Starting, NaPulse Start-Stop and NaForce Start-Stop models aimed at conventional and idle-stop vehicles across personal, commercial and industrial use.

The company said its batteries are compatible with more than 95% of vehicles and are intended as drop-in replacements for common MF, EFB and AGM formats.

In other words, its batteries are also suited for hybrids and battery electric vehicles that use standard 12V automotive batteries, especially those with start-stop systems, but not as the main high-voltage traction battery in full hybrid or electric vehicles.

According to Aeson Power, sodium-ion technology offers stronger thermal stability than lead-acid, an advantage for Malaysia’s hot, humid climate where engine-bay temperatures can exceed 60°C.

“Today’s launch represents a big milestone for Aeson Power as we introduce our NaPulse Starting, NaPulse Start-Stop and NaForce Start-Stop sodium-ion automotive batteries to the diverse Malaysian market,” said managing director Jin Chan.

Aeson highlighted high-temperature resilience as a key selling point.

The packs are designed for long-term operation at up to 80°C, with claimed capacity retention above 85% after one month of storage at 60°C. The firm also points to reduced risk of swelling, fire or explosion compared with lead-acid under heat stress.

The batteries use a polyanion cathode and feature lightweight construction, rapid charging and high-rate discharge for stronger cranking.

Aeson quoted a 0–100% charge time of about 40 minutes, low self-discharge, and strong vibration resistance. The packs can recover from complete depletion, with the company stating they are able to restart after being discharged to zero volts.

Durability is another plank of the pitch.

Aeson claimed up to three times the cycle life of lead-acid: around 3,000 cycles at 50% depth of discharge versus 500–1,200 cycles for typical lead-acid units.

It added that cycle life shows minimal degradation at elevated temperatures; lead-acid performance typically drops as temperatures rise.

In terms of power delivery, the company cited ultra-low internal resistance that delivers two to three times the starting performance of lead-acid, with peak current in the first 0.3 seconds exceeding three times that of a comparable lead-acid battery.

A wide operating voltage window of 6–14V is quoted, allowing engines to start at 10.5V; most lead-acid batteries struggle below about 12V.

Pricing starts from RM369 with a three-year warranty, compared with the one-year cover common to many lead-acid options. The range is on sale now through Aeson Power’s Shopee channel and retail partners.
