Chery Malaysia has made history by becoming the first automotive brand in the country to receive Sirim certification for its electric vehicle (EV) lithium battery pack.
The certification, awarded by Sirim QAS International, Malaysia’s main testing and certification body, affirms the battery’s compliance with stringent safety and quality standards.
The certification followed rigorous testing of Chery’s EV battery in China, adhering to the UN R100 standard.
It ensures that Chery’s EV batteries meet international benchmarks for safety, reliability, and performance. This development also aligns with Malaysia’s sustainability goals, providing consumers with added confidence in the safety and eco-friendliness of Chery’s electric vehicles.
Currently, Chery’s sole all-electric model in Malaysia, the Omoda E5, is priced at RM146,800 and comes with a 61kWh lithium-iron phosphate Blade battery.
The vehicle delivers 201hp, 340Nm of torque, and a range of 430km under WLTP standards.
It also features rapid charging capabilities and has earned five-star safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP. The first locally assembled Omoda E5 rolled off the production line in October at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah.
Chery plans to expand its EV lineup in Malaysia, including plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) next year, while continuing to focus on innovative green technologies.
