The upgraded Volvo EX90 is moving closer to its Malaysian debut, with Volvo Car Malaysia now accepting registrations of interest for its flagship electric SUV.
The biggest change sits underneath. The latest Twin Motor Performance version produces 500 kW (680 hp) and 870 Nm, considerably more power than the 380 kW/517 hp EX90 currently shown on Volvo’s Malaysian model page. Volvo’s technical documentation splits output between a 220 kW front motor and a 280 kW rear motor.
It also gains an 800V electrical system, replacing the 400V setup used previously. Besides allowing higher charging rates, the new electrical architecture lets Volvo use less material in parts of the battery and motor system and lowers charging-related heat losses.
On a compatible 350 kW DC charger, Volvo lists a 10–80% charging time of around 22 minutes, with the battery at the required temperature. The company separately says a 10-minute charging stop can add as much as 250 km of driving range.
The electronics have received a sizeable upgrade as well. Two Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processors give the EX90’s central computing hardware 500 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of processing capacity. That extra headroom is being used for new and revised driver-assistance and safety functions.
Among them are warnings shared between connected Volvo vehicles for slippery surfaces, road hazards and accidents. Automatic emergency steering has been expanded to work in darkness, while Park Pilot Assist gains support for parallel parking.
Emergency Stop Assist can also stop the vehicle if the driver becomes unresponsive. In markets supporting the function, the EX90 can then automatically contact an emergency call centre.
Another change is an electrochromic panoramic roof, which can vary how much light passes through the glass rather than relying on a conventional fixed-tint roof.
As usual, Volvo Car Malaysia will announce pricing at launch. Its dedicated Malaysian page currently asks prospective buyers to register their interest, while the main configurator continues to display the 2025 EX90 Ultra at RM442,888 with the older 517 hp drivetrain.
