The Proton e.MAS 7 made its first public appearance today at the 67th National Day celebrations.
The national automaker’s first electric vehicle (EV) drew attention from the crowds in Putrajaya as it took part in the parade along with other Proton models, symbolising the progress the brand has made in its 41-year history.
The e.MAS 7, set to be launched in December, is still a pre-production prototype. At the National Day, the e.MAS 7 was covered in special camouflage depicting the colours of the Malaysian flag. Windows were darkly tinted as interior details were not ready for showtime.
The e.MAS 7 is part of a 25-car contingent that included various Proton models, including the original Saga and the recently refreshed X70.
Legacy models also shared the limelight including the Wira, Putra, Tiara and Savvy.
Local media had a first glimpse of the e.MAS 7 on Aug 2.
Testing for the e.MAS 7 has intensified since its media debut, with camouflaged test vehicles spotted during durability, charging, driving, and software testing.
Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong said last week that the e.MAS 7 was a pivotal model in the company’s future, being its first EV and the first model developed alongside Geely, allowing for faster right-hand-drive production and cost efficiencies.
Proton is committed to ensuring the EV meets customer expectations in Malaysia and export markets, he added.
