Volkswagen has opened German pre-sales for the new ID. Polo, the electric version of one of its longest-running nameplates, with prices starting from €24,995 (RM115,400) for the base model when it arrives later.
For now, the launch version is the ID. Polo Life with the 155kW motor and 52kWh battery, priced from €33,795 (RM156,000). The cheaper entry model, along with more variants, will follow in the summer.
The ID. Polo is Volkswagen’s attempt to push a familiar small-car badge into the affordable EV space.
It is 4,053mm long, 1,816mm wide and 1,530mm tall, with a 2,600mm wheelbase. Despite being compact, it gets a 441-litre boot, rising to 1,240 litres with the rear seats folded. That is more than the combustion-engined Polo.
Three front-wheel-drive outputs are listed: 85kW, 99kW and 155kW. The two lower-powered versions use a 37kWh net LFP battery, good for up to 329km WLTP. They can charge from 10 to 80% in about 23 minutes on DC power.
The 155kW model uses a 52kWh net NMC battery and offers up to 454km WLTP. Its 10 to 80% DC charging time is about 24 minutes.
Volkswagen has also tried to give the ID. Polo more than just a familiar name.
DC fast charging is standard, as is one-pedal driving. Vehicle-to-load capability is also included, allowing the car to power external devices at up to 3.6kW. That could cover e-bikes, camping kit or other small electrical gear.
Inside, the ID. Polo gets a 10-inch digital instrument display and a 13-inch central infotainment screen. Volkswagen also mentions a “retro display” inspired by the facelifted Mk1 Golf, which is a small but deliberate nod to the brand’s past.
The assist package goes beyond the usual small-car checklist. An optional Connected Travel Assist can support steering and speed control, and Volkswagen says it can react to traffic lights within system limits, a claimed first for this class.
Equipment lines in Germany are Trend, Life and Style.
Depending on version, kit includes adaptive cruise control, a rear camera, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, heated seats, two-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic glass roof and even massage front seats.
