BMW is introducing significant upgrades in spring 2025, focusing on enhanced electric drive technologies, new engine variants, and expanded standard features across its range.

Updated power electronics and efficiency measures have substantially extended the all-electric BMW i5’s driving range by up to 47km, depending on configuration.

Energy consumption reductions stem from the integration of silicon carbide converters in the power electronics, low-rolling-resistance tyres on aerodynamic wheels, and optimised wheel bearings.

All BMW i5 Saloon and Touring versions now benefit from standard ambient lighting with a crystalline Interaction Bar, front-seat lumbar support, and a Harman Kardon HiFi system.

The BMW i5 M60 xDrive also gains the M Sport package Pro. Switchgear in the doors is upgraded to a high-gloss Black finish, and BMW Individual Merino Leather in Black/Dark Violet is newly available.

Various 5 Series models now feature these enhancements, which aim to improve both comfort and interior appeal.

In parallel, two new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé variants join the line-up from March 2025.

The entry-level BMW 216 Gran Coupé employs a three-cylinder petrol engine with 90kW/121hp, enabling 9.9-second acceleration from 0 to 100kph.

The BMW 223 xDrive Gran Coupé integrates a four-cylinder petrol engine and mild-hybrid system, delivering 160kW/215hp and reaching 100kph in 6.4 seconds.

Both models feature a seven-speed double-clutch Steptronic transmission, while the optional BMW kidney Iconic Glow offers additional exterior customisation.

The BMW X3 range gains a high-powered six-cylinder diesel from May 2025.

The X3 40d xDrive produces 223kW/299hp and 670Nm of torque via mild-hybrid technology.

This 3.0-litre unit accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 245kph. It will be built at BMW’s Rosslyn plant in South Africa.

Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid versions of the X1, 2 Series Active Tourer, 7 Series, and XM models now support 11 kW AC charging, significantly cutting charging times.

Further digital enhancements include BMW Digital Key Plus, standard from March 2025 in the BMW iX.

Users can share up to 18 digital keys with configurable permissions, limiting factors such as top speed for novice drivers.

The My BMW app also enables remote manoeuvring in or out of parking spaces. A new Service Card can be activated as a standalone key, while the Setup Card simplifies adding the Digital Key Plus to smartphones.

YouTube functionality and Personal eSIM capabilities expand further in BMW Operating System 9.

Other updates include a new Tyre Repair Kit Plus, standard from March 2025 in models such as the X1, X2, iX, and selected 5 Series Sedans.

This compact device allows punctured tyres to be quickly sealed, enabling continued travel at up to 80kph for as far as 200km.

The BMW X5 and X6 gain adaptive matrix LED headlights as standard, while the X7 now includes Parking Assistant Professional. M60i xDrive variants of all three receive the M Sport package Pro, Harman Kardon sound, and sun protection glazing.

M5 gains new leathers; 2 Series adds 17-inch wheels.
