Volvo’s smallest electric car to date will be coming to Malaysia before the year ends.
Volvo Car Malaysia is calling on those interested in the EX30 to register their interest online.
Featuring the fastest acceleration of any Volvo car to date, the Volvo EX30 comes equipped with the latest technology that powers a new automatic parking feature, a contextual user interface with Google built-in, upgraded semi-autonomous Pilot Assist functionality, and 360°
environmental awareness from its multiple cameras, sensors and radars.
Volvo Car Malaysia had in fact announced its 2024 arrival in mid-2023, and that its launch would be followed later by the EX90 flagship electric SUV.
The EX30 is the smallest electric SUV from Volvo and is positioned below the EX40 (previously the XC40) and EC40 (previously the C40 Coupe) .
Regionally, it is late to Malaysia as it has already gone on sale first in Thailand followed by Singapore and Indonesia.
In Thailand, the EX30 is offered in three variants with two single-motor versions sending power to the rear wheels, while the top one gets two motors for all-wheel drive.
It has a WLTP range of up to 480km, with motors powered by a 69 kWh lithium-ion battery (NCM).
Prices there ranged from 1.39 million baht (RM204,000) to 1.79 million baht (RM230,000), and 1.89 million baht (RM242,000). The Thais get their EX30 as fully imported units from Volvo’s China plant.
In Malaysia, the new model is expected to be locally assembled.
Volvo expects it to be one of its best-selling models this year, with almost 48,000 cars delivered globally in the first half of 2024.
The impending arrival of the EX30 comes as Volvo Car Malaysia is undergoing a restructuring.
With Charles Frump exiting as the company’s managing director recently, Volvo Thailand managing director Chris Wailes is juggling duties between the two countries.
