Malaysian clean energy solutions provider Gentari Sdn Bhd has launched its first EV charging points in Thailand.

Three AC charging points, operated by partner Evolt Technology Company Limited, have been installed at Exchange Tower, a commercial building in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district.

The launch event was attended by Gentari’s CEO, Sushil Purohit, and chief green mobility officer Shah Yang Razalli, alongside Evolt’s COO, Kanchalerm Earsakul.

This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year between Gentari and Evolt, aimed at co-developing and co-investing in the expansion of EV charging infrastructure and exploring other green mobility and clean energy solutions across Southeast Asia.

“Our collaboration with Evolt leverages their market leadership to propel Gentari’s venture into Southeast Asia. Our goal is to enhance our green mobility network across key markets in Asia Pacific, driving the transition towards sustainable mobility,” said Shah Yang.

Evolt’s Kanchalerm said: “This station represents a significant milestone in our commitment to innovation and sustainability, playing a vital role in accelerating EV adoption.”

Evolt’s network in Thailand includes over 10,000 AC and DC chargers across the country’s 77 provinces.

Since its inception in June 2022, Gentari has rapidly expanded its green mobility network. As of May 2023, Gentari, through its affiliates, has deployed over 150 charging points in Malaysia, over 170 in India, and now three in Thailand.

The Petronas-owned company aims to become Asia Pacific’s preferred green mobility solutions provider, targeting a 10% market share, or around 25,000 charging points, by 2030. In the mid-term, Gentari plans to install 9,000 public charging points by 2026, with a strong presence in Malaysia and India.
