GWM Malaysia says it has completed the first export shipment of its locally assembled GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV to Thailand, a move it billed as a milestone for its regional electrification push ahead of the model’s Malaysian debut on Jan 29.
In its Facebook update, the carmaker described the Thailand-bound units as Malaysia-built MPVs featuring its Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system, alongside intelligent safety tech and a more upmarket cabin focus. It did not say how many units in the first batch were shipped to Thailand.
The export follows the start of local production in Melaka.
In December, TienCars reported that the WEY G9 PHEV had rolled out of EP Manufacturing Bhd’s (EPMB) plant, with bookings opened nationwide and an expected price of under RM300,000.
For GWM Malaysia, the timing could hardly be better: local production starts, the first overseas batch ships out to Thailand, and the Malaysian launch arrives before month-end.
