XPeng has completed the first production trial of its G9L electric SUV at Magna’s factory in Graz, Austria, ahead of the model’s global debut at the Paris Motor Show on Oct 12.
The G9L becomes the fourth XPeng model to undergo production at the Austrian facility, joining the G6, G9 and P7+.
The latest addition comes a year after XPeng began manufacturing vehicles in Europe through its partnership with Magna.
The first pre-production G9L will undertake a 1,324km journey from Graz to Paris, allowing XPeng to assess its charging performance, safety systems and driving characteristics under real-world conditions.
The SUV features dual-chamber air suspension, intelligent variable damping and rear-wheel steering with an angle of up to 15 degrees.
Rear-wheel steering is intended to improve manoeuvrability at low speeds while maintaining stability at higher speeds.
XPeng said the G9L underwent 6.74 million km of validation testing across 26 countries and territories over three years.
Development included 192 crash tests and more than 110 testing protocols, covering both left- and right-hand-drive configurations.
The company said the SUV was engineered to meet major international safety assessment standards, including Euro NCAP and ANCAP. However, no official crash-test ratings have been announced.
XPeng plans to introduce the G9L across 64 countries and territories as part of its international expansion.
The Chinese manufacturer has delivered more than 100,000 vehicles outside China, including over 60,000 in Europe.
France accounts for more than 6,000 deliveries since XPeng entered the market two years ago.
Overseas deliveries exceeded 20,000 units in the second quarter of 2026, representing an 81% year-on-year increase.
The G9L will also become part of Magna’s ongoing contract manufacturing operations, which began producing XPeng vehicles in the third quarter of 2025.
Orders for the new SUV are scheduled to open during its Paris unveiling.
XPeng has not disclosed battery capacity, motor output, driving range or charging specifications in the announcement.
The company also has yet to confirm when regular G9L production and customer deliveries will begin.
