Mercedes-Benz will introduce its Nvidia-powered MB.Drive Assist Pro system in Germany in the first half of 2027, allowing drivers to use advanced assistance throughout a journey, including on busy city streets.
Developed with Nvidia, the system combines navigation with SAE Level 2 partially automated driving, handling tasks such as lane changes, turning at junctions, merging into traffic and stopping or moving off at traffic lights.
Drivers activate the system using a steering-wheel button while navigation is running.
Despite its capabilities, MB.Drive Assist Pro is not autonomous driving. Drivers must continuously monitor traffic, remain responsible for the vehicle and be ready to intervene.
Mercedes-Benz plans to give selected customers in Stuttgart and Munich early access from late 2026. Eligible vehicles will receive the software through an over-the-air update, provided they already have the necessary hardware.
Existing compatible vehicles will also be able to receive the system remotely when it becomes commercially available.
The system uses 27 sensors comprising 10 cameras, five radar units and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Data is processed by an onboard computer delivering up to 254 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
Its technology combines Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system with Nvidia’s Hyperion computing and sensor architecture, Halos safety system and Alpamayo software stack.
Mercedes-Benz said its hands-on steering arrangement allows drivers to make steering corrections without disengaging the assistance system.
The German rollout follows the introduction of MB.Drive Assist Pro in China in late 2025 and plans to bring the technology to the United States.
The system has been developed to comply with UN Regulation No. 171, covering Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS).
Mercedes-Benz said the harmonised regulations could allow it to introduce the technology across other European Union markets without additional regulatory approval.
Availability will depend on the model, with the company planning to extend the function across its passenger car and van ranges.
Prices and specific models have yet to be announced.
A complimentary one-month trial through the Mercedes-Benz Store is also planned for suitably equipped vehicles.
