Denza has launched the B8 in Malaysia, giving BYD’s premium brand a large plug-in hybrid SUV with real off-road hardware.

The B8 is offered in two variants. The Dynamic 7-seater is priced at RM459,939, while the Premium 6-seater is priced at RM519,939. Both are on-the-road prices without insurance.

In China, this SUV is the Bao 8, sold under BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao off-road brand. That helps explain the B8’s hardware: it is not just a large luxury SUV with a rugged-looking body. This one sits on a body-on-frame structure.

This is Denza’s first DMO Super Hybrid model for Malaysia. The setup combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, dual electric motors and a 36.8 kWh BYD Blade Battery, with total system output of 450 kW (612 PS) and 760 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through Denza’s DMO Super Hybrid system.

Denza claims up to 115km NEDC of electric-only range, while the combined petrol-electric range is rated at 1,040km NEDC with a full battery and 91-litre fuel tank.

Charging support includes up to 120 kW DC, with a 30% to 80% top-up taking about 16 minutes. The B8 also supports 11 kW AC charging and 6.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power output.

A key feature is the DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body control system. It allows up to 140 mm of ride-height adjustment and gives the B8 a claimed 890 mm wading depth, with approach and departure angles of 34 degrees and 35 degrees respectively. Tyres are 275/55 R20 across the range.

The most obvious cabin difference is seating. The Dynamic uses a seven-seat layout, while the Premium switches to a six-seat cabin with second-row captain chairs, ottomans, ventilation and massage.

Denza lists Nappa leather for the Premium, natural wood trim, a built-in dual-temperature fridge, dual 50 W ventilated wireless charging pads and an 18-speaker, 800-watt Devialet audio system.

The B8 is now Denza Malaysia’s second model after the D9. Public displays are scheduled at Bangsar Shopping Centre from May 22 to 24, Pavilion Bukit Jalil on May 23 and 24, and selected Denza showrooms.
