Proton’s e.MAS 7 retained its position as Malaysia’s best-selling EV in August, with 852 units sold (domestic and export), up 20.7% month-on-month.

Momentum is set to continue with the e.MAS 7’s official launch in Singapore on Sept 17 and Proton’s ramp-up at its new EV plant in Tanjong Malim.

The upcoming e.MAS 5, billed as the brand’s first affordable EV, is expected to widen appeal.

Exports rose sharply. Proton’s overseas volume for August hit a 2025 high at 586 units, driving year-to-date exports to 3,144 units, 49% ahead of the same period last year.

The X50 led export shipments, followed by the Saga and the e.MAS 7.

Overall, Proton recorded its best monthly tally in three years with 15,228 units in August, lifting 2025 year-to-date sales past 100,000 to 100,902 units.

With total industry volume estimated at 73,890 units for the month, Proton’s market share was put at 20.6%, matching April and up 1.3 percentage points on July. Year-to-date market share stood at an estimated 19.5%.
