The one millionth Macan to leave Porsche’s Leipzig plant is an electric Macan 4, completed earlier this month and handed to 62-year-old entrepreneur Stefan Schmidt at the Porsche Experience Center Leipzig.
The car is finished in Frozen Blue Metallic and specified with a two-tone Black/Chalk leather interior, Adaptive Sports Seats, a heated GT Sports steering wheel, a head-up display with augmented reality and a panoramic roof.
Chairman of the Management Board of Porsche Leipzig GmbH Gerd Rupp said the Macan symbolises the site’s growth and its move into electromobility.
The compact SUV has been built in Leipzig since 2013; 82,795 units were delivered in the 2024 financial year. The decision in 2011 to locate Macan production in Leipzig led to expansion from an assembly plant to a full factory with body and paint shops and the creation of 1,500 jobs.
The plant now assembles combustion, hybrid and electric models on one line and is adding another body shop and an axle facility.
The Macan 4’s overboost output is up to 300 kW/408hp. It accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 220kph.
A 100 kWh gross high-voltage battery provides up to 612km of range (WLTP). On an 800-volt DC charger rated at 270 kW, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes. Official WLTP consumption is 21.1–17.9 kWh/100km, with 0 g/km CO2 and CO2 class A.
Factory collection in Leipzig includes a test drive on the site’s own track in an identical model. Schmidt said the Macan’s mix of sporty features and everyday usability appealed, and described the factory handover and track session as highlights.
Porsche began production in Leipzig in 2002 as its second manufacturing location after Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.
Around 5,000 employees produce the Macan and Panamera there; the Cayenne was built until 2017, and the Carrera GT from 2003 to 2006. The facility houses a Porsche Experience Center with racetrack and off-road course.
The plant has been recognised with the Lean and Green Management Award in 2021 and Factory of the Year in 2023.
