Tesla will drop its one-time purchase option for Full Self-Driving (FSD) and move to a subscription-only model from Feb 14, chief executive Elon Musk announced on X.
In the United States, Tesla currently sells FSD (Supervised) for US$8,000 (around RM33,000), or as a monthly subscription priced at US$99 (RM402), Reuters reported.
Tesla also marketed a subscription programme on its support pages, with eligibility tied to the vehicle’s hardware and Autopilot configuration.
Musk did not say whether subscription pricing would change after Feb 14, or how Tesla will treat owners who already paid upfront.
Tesla has labelled its passenger-car software “FSD (Supervised)”, while using an “unsupervised” version internally to move vehicles around factory grounds, Reuters said.
FSD still required driver supervision, and the system has faced regulatory scrutiny in the US.
