Another day, another electric car arrives. This time, Leapmotor grabs the spotlight with the C10 that debuted today.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz was the guest of honour who launched the electric SUV.
He was accompanied by Stellantis Asean chief operating officer Daniel Gonzalez and Stellantis Malaysia managing director Jamie Morais.
Leapmotor is offering an iintroductory price of RM149,000 ( on-the-road excluding insurance) for bookings made by Nov 30. After that, the C10 will revert to its standard sticker price of RM159,000.
The 5-seat C10 is Leapmotor’s first global product, marking a significant milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. Malaysia has become the first Asean country to receive this innovative EV model, following a strategic partnership announced in May between Stellantis and Leapmotor.
Stellantis, the world’s fourth-largest automaker with 15 brands under its umbrella, entered into a joint venture with Leapmotor to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region. Stellantis holds a 51% stake in the venture, while Leapmotor controls the rest.
The introduction of the C10 signals a strong push by Stellantis into the EV market in Malaysia, where it aims to capitalise on the growing demand for eco-friendly and technologically advanced vehicles.
Global design, advanced technology
The C10 has been designed to meet global standards in terms of safety, performance, and technology. Leapmotor’s proprietary LEAP 3.0 platform underpins the SUV, integrating several advanced systems that set it apart from other electric vehicles in its class.
The platform includes a central integrated electronic and electrical architecture, which enhances communication between the car’s various components.
In addition, the vehicle features the innovative Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) technology, a standout feature that allows the car’s battery to be integrated directly into the chassis, improving battery layout efficiency by 17.5%.
The C10’s design is minimalist yet sophisticated, reflecting the brand’s focus on modern aesthetics combined with functionality.
The front end features LED-powered angel-wing headlamps with sequencing daytime running lights (DRLs), while the front bumper is equipped with an Active Grille Shutter (AGS) for optimised cooling and aerodynamics. The SUV’s side profile is accentuated by a sleek 3-parallel beltline, 20-inch “Trident” wheels, and an airfoil-styled rear spoiler with a hidden wiper for a clean, aerodynamic look.
Dimension-wise, the C10 measures 4,739mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,680mm in height, with a generous wheelbase of 2,825mm. It has a ground clearance of 180mm, offering a balanced blend of road presence and everyday practicality. These dimensions place it squarely in the D-segment, catering to families looking for a spacious and comfortable electric SUV.
Performance and charging
At the heart of the C10 is a 69.9 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is paired with a permanent magnetic synchronous motor in the rear axle that produces 214hp and 320Nm of torque.
This powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 7.5 seconds, while its top speed is capped at 170kph. The C10 offers an impressive driving range of 424km on the WLTP cycle, making it suitable for both urban commuting and longer journeys.
One of the C10’s key strengths is its flexible charging capabilities. The vehicle supports both 800V and 400V supercharging technology, allowing for rapid recharging.
Using DC fast charging, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes with a maximum input of 84kW.
For home or standard AC charging, the C10 requires around six hours to charge from 30% to 80% at 6.6kW. Additionally, the vehicle supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging, which allows it to power external devices at up to 3.3kW, offering a versatile feature for outdoor activities or emergency situations.
Interior allure
Inside, the C10 is designed with a focus on comfort and user-friendly technology.
The minimalist interior layout is accentuated by Leapmotor’s “Four-Leaf Clover” Central Electronic and Electrical Architecture, which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.
This advanced system centralizes the control of the car’s key functions, including cockpit management, driving, power distribution, and body functions. A 14.6-inch infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, complemented by a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster that provides all essential driving information.
The cabin of the C10 is spacious and designed for comfort, featuring OEKO-Tex Standard 100 baby-friendly silicone textile seats, a PM2.5 air filtration system, and customizable ambient lighting.
Passengers can enjoy four driving modes—ECO, Comfort, Sport, and Custom—to suit different driving conditions and preferences. For added versatility, the foldable seats can be transformed into a double bed, making the vehicle ideal for long trips or family outings.
Additional amenities include a panoramic glass roof and a premium 12-speaker sound system that offers four concert hall audio modes.
Safety and driver aids
The vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). The Level 2 ADAS package includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centering Control (LCC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).
These systems work together to enhance driver convenience and safety, especially in congested urban environments and long highway journeys.
The vehicle also comes with seven airbags and multiple alert systems to ensure maximum protection for both the driver and passengers.
Warranty and aftersales
Stellantis Malaysia will manage the sales, distribution, and after-sales services for the C10, initially offering 18 point-of-sales locations across the country this year, with plans to expand to 27 by 2025.
The C10 comes with a 6-year or 150,000km warranty, which includes a 4-year manufacturer warranty plus an additional 2-year extended warranty. The battery is covered by an 8-year or 160,000km warranty. Service intervals are set at 1 year or 20,000km, whichever comes first.
In terms of after-sales support, Stellantis plans to have 16 service centres in operation by 2025, with six of these centres expected to be ready by the end of this year.
The C10 is available in four exterior colours—Glazed Green, Pearly White, Canopy Grey, and Tundra Grey—with two interior color options: Criollo Brown (exclusive to Glazed Green) and Midnight Aurora.
