BYD has launched the third-generation Yuan Plus in China, giving the model known in many export markets as the Atto 3 a much bigger technical reset than the current car.

The new compact electric SUV is priced from 119,900 yuan to 149,900 yuan (about RM70,000 to RM87,500) in China. BYD’s official China product page lists the model under the Dynasty series, with launch-window purchase benefits running from May 21 to June 30.

Four variants are offered in China. The 540KM Leading starts from 119,900 yuan (about RM70,000), followed by the 540KM Beyond at 129,900 yuan (RM75,800).

The longer-range 630KM Beyond is priced from 142,900 yuan (RM83,400), while the 630KM Excellence tops the range at 149,900 yuan (RM87,500).

The range figures are based on China’s CLTC cycle. As a rough guide, the 540km and 630km claims work out to about 432km and 504km WLTP.

The third-generation Yuan Plus moves to BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo and switches from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. Depending on variant, it gets a rear motor rated at 200 kW (272 PS) or 240 kW (326 PS), paired with either a 57.5 kWh or 68.5 kWh second-generation Blade Battery.

BYD has also added flash-charging support. The new Yuan Plus can add useful range in five minutes and complete a fast-charge session in nine minutes under ideal conditions.

As usual with headline charging figures, real-world performance would depend on charger output, battery temperature and state of charge.

The new model is also physically larger. It measures 4,665mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,675mm tall, with a 2,770mm wheelbase. Practicality improves too, with a 180-litre powered frunk and rear cargo capacity of up to 750 litres.

The chassis uses front MacPherson struts and a rear five-link independent suspension, with DiSus-C intelligent damping, iTAC 2.0 torque control and TBC tyre-blowout stability control. Higher variants can also be specified with DiPilot 300, also known in China as God’s Eye B, using lidar-based driver assistance.

Inside, the China-market model gains BYD’s latest DiLink system, a larger central screen, head-up display, column-mounted gear selector, 50W wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel and a 16-speaker audio system, depending on variant.

With this new Yuan Plus forming the basis of the next Atto 3, BYD’s familiar electric SUV would move well beyond a cosmetic update, with rear-wheel drive, much faster charging, a bigger body and a stronger claimed range figure.

In Malaysia, BYD Cars Malaysia has just teased an upcoming model with the line “Faster, Further, Smarter” and a “coming soon” message, suggesting that either a new model or an updated one is on the way.

That timing points neatly towards Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2026 (KLIMS 2026), which runs from June 12 to 21 at Mitec, Kuala Lumpur. BYD has not named the car, but the new Atto 3 would be a plausible candidate for a show-floor reveal.
